,Description
While scientists, business executives, and politicians have a role to play in solving the climate crisis, artists can offer musical and visual perspectives that inspire individuals and spur positive change. The One World Suite, performed by the NYU Jazz Orchestra and Combo Nuvo, and directed by Rich Shemaria (the composer), will take the audience on a journey around the planet, reinforcing that through music, everyone has a voice
The first 500 people to arrive between 6:00 pm and 6:15 pm will receive a free harmonica and instruction on how to play “The Oceans,” the interactive finale of the climate-inspired evening of music, moving images, and spoken word.
“We’re making a statement that everyone has a voice through music and when we combine our voices, it’s very powerful,” said David Schroeder, composer of “The Oceans” who will teach the harmonica lesson.
This performance is the kickoff of 2040 Now, NYU's weeklong sustainability initiative
Guest artists for One World Suite include members of Combo Nuvo (NYU Steinhardt Jazz Faculty Ensemble):
Dave Schroeder, woodwinds and composer of “Stand for Change,” aka “The Oceans”
Lenny Pickett, saxophone, director of the “Saturday Night Live Band”
Brad Shepik, guitar with Paul Motian, Charlie Haden’s Liberation Orchestra
Rich Shemaria, conductor and composer of “One World Suite”
John Hadfield, percussionist with YoYo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble
The event will also include special participation from Jack Knott, Larry Miller with messages from Tony Shaloub, Polly Draper, and many more.
